OpenCart Default Options

The "Default Options" module adds smart behavior for options to the product page and checkout: now you can pre-select which options will be automatically selected for the customer.

Purpose of the module

Essentially, the module helps make default option selection part of the standard purchasing process. The administrator sets the "Default " checkbox for the desired value, and the system automatically populates this option in the store and takes it into account when checking out the order.

How does this work

The module manages option settings on the admin side, picks them up in the model and controllers, and then reflects them on the frontend. As a result, for each option type (drop-down list, radio buttons, checkboxes), the desired value is:

• marked as selected by default when displaying a product;
• is correctly transferred to the design data;
• participates in the cart validation logic (to avoid requiring a choice where it has already been made automatically).

Important: If default is not specified for any option, the option will require selection using standard logic.

Example scenarios

• Product completeness: set the default to "Basic set" so the buyer won't leave the selection empty.
• Packaging/handling: default to "Normal packaging" will reduce cart abandonment.
• Weight/Price Prefix: When different values have different weight_prefix or price_prefix, default ensures that the calculation starts with the correct set of parameters.

Result

"Default Options" is a practical enhancement to the user experience: you configure the default in the admin panel, and the module helps you select options automatically, displays them correctly in the storefront, and reduces the likelihood of errors when placing an order.
